To tackle the challenges of increasing density and complexity of urban populations and given the innovative and emerging technologies, the Department of Civil Engineering at Manav Rachna is introducing from AY 21-22:

These specializations have been adopted based on AICTE’s Approval Process Handbook 21-22. It is stated that under Graduate Degree Courses in EMERGING / MULTIDISCIPLINARY AREAS shall be allowed as specialization from the same department. The minimum additional Credits for such Courses shall be in the range of 18-20 (including credit transferred from the SWAYAM platform) and the same shall be mentioned in the degree, as specialization in that particular area. So, a student will earn minimum 180 credits to get Honors degree in these specializations.  Keeping this in view, the two specializations have been built upon a foundation of basics of Civil Engineering with a focus on futuristic technologies. Manav Rachna has a robust Stakeholders’ Feedback mechanism in the practices of curriculum design, content and delivery of the courses along with a strong Alumni base well placed across the country in Public/Private organizations. A comprehensive stakeholders’ feedback analysis was conducted to design the curriculum with the following as basis

  • Choice based credit system
  • Multi Disciplinary Electives  from other Engineering/Non-Engineering Departments providing multi-dimensional academic growth and lucrative resume’ profiles
  • Hands on training offered on contemporary softwares like STAAD PRO, ETABS, MX ROAD and Primavera etc.
  • State-of-art industry as well as research oriented courses
  • Orientation towards Research publications, Project work and Industrial experience to enhance the skills, entrepreneurship, employability and problem-solving skills
  • Continuous course delivery enhancement  with related site visits, expert talks, workshops and specialized trainings

Civil Engineering (Hons) with specialization in Smart Cities

Credits: 180

The COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc world over. As part of an emergency response to the pandemic, the Indian Government leveraged the pioneering Smart Cities mission to enable cities to effectively utilize technology in improving citizen services and overall quality of life. It is important that infrastructure in the cities are upgraded and managed by using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to make them sustainable in the long run as smart city needs smart infrastructure and smart businesses. Smart buildings, zero energy buildings, smart water systems, and smart electricity grids, waste management protocols, will all be part of the future connected cities, in addition to mobility solutions. As a result, engineering education must broaden to encompass infrastructure, environmental knowledge, technology, sensors, and data science. The Manav Rachna Smart Cities focus provides one with just that, guiding one through a customized curriculum, hands on training and interactive industrial experiences outside of the classroom.

Specialization in Green Technology & Sustainability Engineering

Credits: 180

Frequent occurrence of disasters calls for developing disaster resilient communities, adoption of green and clean technologies is the need of the hour to achieve the objective of Millennium Development goals. A conscious effort is to be made in resorting to clean energy production, usage of alternative fuels which are less harmful to the environment etc. Though the market is in a nascent stage, but awareness creation and inclusion of same in producing green and sustainable design has to be resorted to, with an aim to leave behind a legacy for the generations to come. Inclusion of the green building norms has to be integrated with contemporary approaches. Environmental protection has to be at the forefront of the infrastructure design, this can be achieved by promotion of reuse and recycling of waste. Promotion of green technologies not only in water reuse and recycling and increasing availability of clean drinking water for everyone is to be enforced but application of same in all realms of Civil Engineering is to be incorporated in producing sustainable green design.

Many other facets of Civil engineering require integrated planning and design in a transition from contemporary practices to state-of-art green and clean constructions. A meticulous planning, creativity, adaptability and problem-solving skills helps in achieving these objectives. B.Tech (Hons.) Civil Engineering with specialization in Green Technology & Sustainability Engg. offered by the department from 2021 will be catering to above aspects.
