Faculty Orientation program

Day 4 of the Faculty Orientation Programme organized by IQAC Manav Rachna University for the faculty members was held on 19th August 2023 in room no. IG07. It included three sessions: Concept of CO, PO, PSO and their mapping; Attainment of POs & COs; and Cooperative Learning using Jigsaw for Stress Management.

Prof. (Dr.) Sangita Banga, Pro-Vice Chancellor conducted the first session on the Concept of CO, PO,PSO and their mapping. The faculty members were made acquainted with these terminologies, their roles and their significance in Outcome Based Education (OBE).

She discussed OBE, with its components of COs, POs, and PSOs, as a student-centered approach that ensures educational programs are focused on specific learning outcomes. Through numerous examples and case studies, she also explained how OBE promotes accountability, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.

The second session was conducted by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. I K Bhat on “Cooperative learning using Jigsaw for stress management”. The session was activity-based where teams performed as per the guidelines and had a hands-on experience of the concept of cooperative learning. Everyone participated enthusiastically and was happy & confident at the end of learning the technique with such ease. Sir concluded the session by sharing the objectives of peer-to-peer learning and how it promotes positive interdependence, individual accountability, group processing, social skills and interaction among students as realized by each participant through the activity.

The last session of the day focused on the Attainment of CO-PO and was conducted by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. I K Bhat & Prof. (Dr.) Sangita Banga, Pro-Vice Chancellor. They explained the procedure for the calculation of CO-PO attainment and the various parameters accountable for the same. Dr. Banga explained the role & benefit of the EMS facility for the calculation of the attainment and also showcased step-by-step procedures to be followed on EMS for the calculation. Sir concluded the session and emphasized the need to develop a comprehensive course plan before the commencement of the course and along with COs mapping with various assessment tools & activities, timely evaluation and calculation.

The participants shared their feedback and cleared the queries with the experts. They were contented and admitted that though challenges exist, the benefits of OBE in producing competent and industry-relevant graduates make it a valuable educational philosophy.
