Workshop on Green Chemistry:
A One-day Workshop on Green Chemistry was organized by the Chemistry Department on 9th July, 2012 Professor R. K. Sharma, Coordinator, Green Chemistry Network Centre, Delhi University and In-charge, International Chapter, American Chemical Society-Green Chemistry Institute was the Keynote Speaker. The workshop stressed on the role of Green Chemistry for reduction of waste, materials and energy, which in turn will lead to cost reduction and improvement in profit margins. The Forenoon brain storming session was attended by the Director- Principal, Deans, H.O.D’s of various Departments, Faculty members of the Department of Chemistry, Physics, and various Engineering branches. In the afternoon, Prof. Sharma and his team members demonstrated several Green Chemistry Experiments to the faculty members in RIC Lab (I Block). The team of experts demonstrated synthesis of gold nano particles from tea leaves and cinnamon, Claisen Schmidt reaction by new pathways which modified the once so-called complex pathways into simpler one step procedures. The session finally ended on a knowledgeable note and enthusiasm to imply green chemistry for engineers for their overall upliftment.
Workshop on “Innovative Technologies for Water Detoxificaion
Chemistry Department organized a 2-days Workshop on “Innovative Technologies for Water Detoxification” during January 14-15, 2013 in association with ‘Intellectuals Society for Socio- Techno Welfare’ (ISST) at MRCE Faridabad. This was the first program which was organized under the banner of MRCE Extension Program. The workshop was sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation Limited. The main objective of the workshop was to provide a platform for sharing and discussing the simple and cost effective technologies for removal of heavy toxic metals such as Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead and Chromium etc from Industrial effluents and Ground water.
The main thrust of the workshop was to impart practical exposure to the participants about the preparation of nano particles, their impregnation on Granular Activated Carbon, their adsorption, isotherm and kinetic studies. In all about eight experiments were demonstrated and then participants enthusiastically performed themselves. The response of the participants about the workshop was overwhelming and they appreciated the knowledge and expertise shared by the speakers and especially the Course Coordinators.
