FAQs for Aeronautical Engineering

What kind of salaries can one expect after B.Tech. in Aeronautical Engineering?
The salaries vary as per the job one has chosen, the organization, and the interview performance. One can expect to get an annual salary of Rs. 2.5 – 4 lakh or more at the time of initial entry into an organization. The highest salary received by our students during On-Campus placement is Rs. 3.4 lakh in companies related with Aerospace Engg.

Where can one join after graduating in Aeronautical Engineering?
The B.Tech. (Aero Engg.) graduates can apply for placement in various reputed industries/organizations, such as, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), National Aeronautical Laboratories, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, Indian Army, Air India etc.

Does a student in Aeronautical Engineering require deeper knowledge of science subjects and mathematics to be able to clear the B. Tech. programme?
Knowledge of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and their applications is an essential requirement for all B.Tech. Programme. These courses are simply extension of similar courses covered at school level and are also taught as foundation courses in the first year of the B.Tech. Programme. It is, therefore, possible for an average student to learn and perform well in these courses with continuous hard work.

Are there qualified faculty members available to teach aeronautical subjects at MRIU?
Yes, we have good number of qualified faculty members in the Department to teach aeronautical engineering subjects as per curriculum of B.Tech.-Aeronautical. Some of the faculty members in the department have rich experience on aircraft maintenance in the Indian Air Force. Some of the faculty members hold masters qualification in Aerospace Sciences, Space Engineering and Rocketry from renowned universities in India and abroad.

Are there sufficient lab facilities available in Aeronautical Department?
Yes, the Aeronautical Department has an Aerodynamics Lab, Propulsion Lab, Aircraft Structures Lab and Projects Lab. The Aerodynamics Lab has a wind tunnel with all the required measurement systems, a Hot-Wire Anemometry system and flow visualization facilities using water and smoke. The Propulsion Lab has an experimental set up for studying propeller performance. The Aircraft Structures Lab has aircraft instruments and components and various system diagrams for learning their operation. A computational facility for carrying out fluid flow and structural analysis using commercial software is also available. The Project Lab is the one where students carry out design and fabrication of their projects.

What are the special resources/facilities available in Aeronautical Department of MRIU because of which it stands out as a place where it is worthwhile to seek admission in the B.Tech.(Aero) programme?
The Department has very good lab facilities with state-of-the-art equipments including a subsonic wind tunnel, equipment for studying turbulence and stress analysis, a propeller experimental rig and a flame propagation apparatus, which can be exploited for research type projects. The special lab courses covered are on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Method (FEM) using ANSYS software. Knowledge of these areas provides a lot of scope for further career development and good placements.

Is there any industrial training planned during the B. Tech. (Aero) program?
Yes, our students go for industrial training during their final year in organizations like Air India, DRDO labs, such as ADE, TBRL, CSIR Lab NAL, aircraft manufacturing companies like HAL, TAAL and private companies. During such training, the students are exposed to activities related to maintenance/ overhaul, design and development, and various manufacturing processes and on related documentation. Thus, they get exposed to the functioning of typical industries which proves helpful in their placement and thereafter in their career in the industry.

Are the students taken on educational visits during the course of B.Tech. program?
The students are taken on industrial visits to Air Force Stations for familiarization with various aircraft and aero engine systems, aircraft instruments, communication and navigation systems, scheduled servicing operations etc. or to any general industry to see the functioning of the industry and various manufacturing processes followed there.

How can one get an opportunity to work on aircraft after completing the B.Tech-(Aero) program?
This is possible after one is selected to join Indian Air Force / Indian Navy as a commissioned officer, where he/she will be trained on the aircraft before being deputed to work on such aircraft. B. Tech students after joining the airlines prepare for DGCA examinations and after clearing these examinations one is awarded Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s license in a particular stream of aircraft maintenance. This improves their chances of further growth in career in the airlines industry.

What are the various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities undertaken in the department?
Seminars and workshops on salient topics of Aeronautical Engineering, Aero-modeling, etc. are conducted by the Department. External expert speakers are invited during such occasions. In addition, students take part in the Cultural cum Technical Festival and Project Carnival organized annually in FET.

What is the scope of higher studies in Aeronautical Engineering?
While in the 7th Semester of B.Tech. Programme the aeronautical students can apply for GATE to study for M. Tech. (Aero) in IITs. The students who are keen to pursue their Masters programme in Aerospace Engineering in Universities abroad prepare for GRE. A higher qualification is beneficial for better placement in industry/academia in the various areas of research and development. Two of the our aeronautical graduates have completed Masters program from US Universities and are now working in the USA, one each are studying in US and Australian Universities and two students are studying in German Universities.
