The inauguration of ‘SWAYAM SIDDHA: Celebrating being a Woman’ organized by FMS, MRIU, held at the campus

New Image1In its continued efforts in creating awareness on gender sensitization among the youth, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Manav Rachna International University (MRIU), in association with Sindhu Srijan, (an NGO working on Women and Youth Empowerment) will be celebrating month long festivities titled ‘SWAYAM SIDDHA: Celebrating being a Woman”  which will be witness to various activities and events centered on themes relating to women from 12th February 2016 to culminate on 8th March, 2016. Today marked the inauguration of the programme.

Gracing the occasion was Chief Guest Hon’ble Smt Satya Bhalla, Chief Patron, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI); Dr N.C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIU; Dr Chavi Bhargava Sharma, Dean, FMS, MRIU; Ms Upasana Agarwal, President, Sindhu Srijan , among others along with students and Faculty of MREI.

In course of its month long celebrations, FMS will be inviting many prominent women achievers from various fields to share their experiences with the youth of today. They will also have a series of workshops as well as competitions for the students. Apart from senior Cabinet Ministers, well-known nutritionist Dr Ishi Khosla and Faridabad’s foremost gynaecologist Dr Neeta Dabhai will speak on the subject of ‘Woman’s Health—Psychological & Adolescence Issues’ on 4th March, 2016. That apart, Lalitha Kumaramanglam, Chairperson, National Commission for Women will be holding forth on ‘Women’s Rights’ on 3rd March, 2016. There will also be a workshop on ‘Mind, Body & Soul’ conducted by dermatologist Dr Chiranjiv Chabbra apart from poster making competition, dance and poetry competitions held by the FMS and the Dean Students’ Welfare team at Manav Rachna Educational Institutions in course of the month. On the anvil is also a theatre workshop ‘Women Expressions’ conducted by Ms Averee Chaurey, renowned theatre personality on 19 February, 2016 and a Leadership Series featuring ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ in which Ms Joon and Dr Anthony Raju, Advocate and Chairman, All India Council of Human Rights, liberties and Social Justice, an NGO will be the keynote speakers on 23rd February, 2016.

Welcoming dignitaries at the inaugural session, Dr Chavi Bhargava Sharma, Dean, FMS, MRIU, said, “This programme is meant to help us explore the feminine aspects such as receptivity, surrender, empathy, love and gentleness in each of us—an absence of which makes the world a harsh place.”

Launching the program logo along with other dignitaries, Hon’ble Satya Bhalla Ma’am, Chief Patron, MREI, said,” It is women who keep the family together and they are also the repository of pain and anger in the family. Today, women are equal to men even as they fulfill the multiple roles of being a daughter, wife and later, a mother to her children.” Ms Satya Bhalla hoped that this programme would inspire everyone to accord more respect to women and help her gain her rightful place in society. Dr N.C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIU, seconded her thoughts and said “Women are equal partners in the developmental process in today’s world but there is a need for a more humane society which is sensitive to the needs of women so that they have a more conducive and safe environment.”

MRIS, expressed, “Throughout history and even in present-day world, women have had to struggle for their rights. “ She urged the girls to become more self sufficient and educate themselves to the highest levels possible. “Women are not equal but far superior to men,”. The inaugural day of ‘SWAYAM SIDDHA: Celebrating being a Woman” set the tone for the month long programme in which women would no doubt occupy pride of place.
