January 12, 2015: On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s 153rd Birth Anniversary, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions under the aegis of Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation organized a series of activities celebrating the life and philosophies of Swami Vivekananda. Vivekananda believed that a country’s future depends on its people, and his teachings focused on human development.

Carrying forward his learnings and also supporting ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’, dustbins were installed at the Old Faridabad Railway Station. Students and faculty members participated in yoga sessions, plays, group discussions, and presentations on the life and philosophies of Swami Vivekananda across the Manav Rachna International University campus.

To salute the spirit of the legendary visionary Dr. O P Bhalla, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions formed the Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation Trust in association with Smt. Satya Bhalla as Chairperson. The Foundation adopted the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ as envisaged by our Hon’ble Prime Minister through a series of cleanliness drives and awareness campaigns across various places in Faridabad over the past few months.  To further strengthen this mission, starting today, the Foundation is installing around 50 dustbins in a phased manner at key locations across the Old Faridabad Railway Station. Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation has adopted the Old Faridabad Railway Station for a weekly cleanliness drive.

Chief Guest Dr. Anil Jain, Prabhari, BJP, Haryana and National Secretary, BJP; Guest of Honour Sh. Krishan Pal Gurjar, MP, Lok Sabha; Sh. Vipul Goel, MLA; Smt. Seema Trikha, MLA; Sh. Moolchand Sharma, MLA; Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI; Dr. Amit Bhalla, VP, MREI; senior functionaries of Haryana Administration; Senior Officials of Indian Railways among other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

‘Smart Bins’ developed by the students of Manav Rachna Innovation & Incubation Centre (MRIIC) were also launched and installed at the Railway Station. The ‘Smart Bin’ is a smart and motivating way to keep the earth clean and produces social messages when trash is thrown inside. An innovative project of MRIIC, it encourages people to put all the garbage in the dustbin rather than on floor.

Congratulating all those involved in the noble cause, Dr. Anil Jain said: “Keeping the surroundings clean is a two-way process and the general public needs to actively participate in it and do their bit. I am very happy to note that Manav Rachna Educational Institutions and Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation have been successfully implementing the Central Government’s mission ever since the campaign was announced. Other educational institutions across the country should take this up as an example”.

Students and staff of Faculty of Management Studies at Manav Rachna International University cleaned up the Faridabad Railway Station and the areas surrounding it with great zeal and enthusiasm.

This noble mission and cleanliness campaign is meant to sensitize people towards the importance of cleanliness. There is a lot that institutions can do like installing dustbins at various junctions and having workers to keep the public places like railways stations, bus stands clean”, said Sh. Krishan Pal Gurjar.

Smt. Seema Trikha said:“Such campaigns play a significant role in awakening the common man and re-energizing them. Institutions can only guide and lead us; we all need to tread the path ourselves. One must remember, not taking care of your responsibilities is also a form of corruption.”

Sh. Vipul Goel and Sh. Moolchand Sharma also appreciated the cause and encouraged other institutions and the common man to contribute their bit towards cleanliness.

“We, as an emerging and progressive nation, need to work upon our cleanliness and make it an integral part of our lives. The Swachh Haryana Abhiyaan has been a great unifier, bringing together all sections of the society and energizing our students to clean up their immediate environment”, said Dr. Prashant Bhalla.

The cleanliness mission, an initiative of the Dr. O.P. Bhalla Foundation has succeeded in its mission of spreading mass awareness about cleanliness and hygiene, inspiring students to undertake the onus of keeping the nation and Haryana clean.
