Manav Rachna Educational Institutions to represent India at the world finals of Microsoft Imagine Cup 2015 at Seattle, USA.

Winning  has become a tradition at Manav Rachna University (MRU), with a team from MRU winning the national finals of Microsoft Imagine Cup 2015 and bagging the prestigious honour of representing India at the world finals of the competition in Seattle, USA.

Team Eyeluminati comprising Roopam Sharma (final year-Computer Science student), Akshita Sachdeva(final year-Computer Science student), Neeraj Saini (third year-Electronics & Communications Engineering) and Debajit Guha (third year-Mechanical Engineering student) qualified in the innovation category; has developed Project Manouve, a multi–utility wearable haptic device for the blind. The device can be used to read printed text and also helps the blind move around in a complex environment. The team will now compete in the global finals from July 28 to 31 in Seattle, Washington (US) with 32 other winner teams, selected from more than 150 student projects across 64 countries in the World Semi-finals.

Since, the project developed by MRU students serves a social cause; it also makes them eligible to compete in the ability round, which is being organized by Microsoft for the first time during its Imagine Cup. The students of Manav Rachna University hold a strong change to win this round as well.

This is the second consecutive time that a team from MREI has made to the Global Finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2015; while for four consecutive years, a team from MREI has made it to the National Finals of this coveted tournament.  Last year, Team Codeblue from MREI had represented India at the world finals and emerged as the runner – ups. Three teams from Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, Team Aether (Project Tydee), Team Eyeluminati (Project Manouve) and Team Visioners (Project UltraFy) had qualified at the national finals of Microsoft Imagine Cup under all the three categories – Games, Innovation and World Citizenship category. Microsoft’sImagineCupis the world’s most prestigious student technology competition, bringing together student innovators from all over the world.

Roopam Sharma, Mentor – Team Eyeluminati dedicates his victory to his teachers and team who stood by him. It is noteworthy, that Roopam has also been this year’s winner of the Microsoft Youth Spark Challenge 2015 for his project Emancipator – a real time position tracking system that consists of a mobile application which sends alerts to a Dementia patient’s caregiver. Roopam has also been a part of the teams that have developed Saviour Suit and Bol India applications. These applications have been acknowledged at the Accenture Innovation Jockey 2014.

This year, the competing teams at the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2015 have a chance to win incredible prizes including the grand prize of 50,000 USD, one month internship with Microsoft (Nicaragua) and an opportunity to win a private meeting with Satya Nadella!
