8th Manav Rachna Corporate Cricket Challenge Cup begins today

January 10, 2015: Come winter and cricket is clearly the flavor of the season at Manav Rachna International University. The 8th Corporate Cricket Challenge Cup dedicated in the memory of Dr. O P Bhalla was inaugurated today at the Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) campus.

The inaugural match was played between NDTV and defending champions Adidas. The toss was won by Adidas who elected to field!

While inaugurating the tournament, Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI said: The Tournament is the brainchild of Founder Chairman Dr O.P. Bhalla whose visionary zeal and enterprising mission brought about an ideal amalgam of sports and academia, infusing every Manavite with the true spirit of sportsmanship. He believed that triumphs and tribulations are a part of life and sports gives everyone a level playing field.Dr O.P. Bhalla’s idea of total education involved not just academic achievements, but also sporting excellence where students imbibe the qualities of leadership, tolerance, sharing and team-spirit. Manav Rachna has strong relationships with corporates, which only get strengthened with such friendly matches”.

Addressing the teams on the field, Dr. N C Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIU said: Manav Rachna prides itself in creating a seamless synergy between sports and academia, promoting a robust relationship between the corporate and academic world. The Corporate Cricket Challenge packs in loads of excitement with 25 top corporates wielding the willow at the lush green grounds of the University. With top corporates like Maruti Suzuki, TCS, NDTV, RBS, Aajtak, Jagran Group, Honda, JCB, Fortis, Adidas, Accenture Services, Suzuki Motorcycle, Australian High Commission and Prasar Bharti putting their best foot forward, we expect highly competitive matches over the next two months”.

Winning team: ADIDAS

NDTV scored 122 runs for 10 wickets in 16.4 overs. Adidas won the match by scoring 123 runs for 5 wickets in 13.5 overs. Mr. Manas from Adidas was declared as the “Man of the Match’.

  • JCB vs Fortis Healthcare

Winning team: JCB

Toss Won By: Fortis Healthcare (elected to bat)

Fortis Healthcare scored 105 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. JCB emerges winner by scoring 106 runs for 2 wickets in 11.2 overs. Mr. Sumit from JCB was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
