JMC students attended a Seminar on “Racial Diversity Sensitization”
Journalism and Mass Communication students attended a seminar on “Racial Diversity Sensitization” hosted by the National Commission of Women in New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan.
The program was an effort in partnership with the National Commission for Minorities, the Special Unit of the North Eastern Region of the Delhi Police (SPUNER), and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs was the Chief Guest of the event.
Mr. Singh told the audience that we should live in a spirit of mutual endeavor and unity indifference. “We are well aware of the differences we take for granted. Anyone from any background should not be made to feel uncomfortable in any setting. We’re all Indians. We must embrace everyone with dignity and respect.”
He attributed this to frequent stereotyping, citing press reports about occurrences of blatant discrimination toward various ethnicities. “Stereotyping, in any form, should be avoided. Mutual regard is critical, “he explained.
Ms. Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of NCW, and Ms. Syed Shehzadi, acting Chairperson of the National Commission of Minorities, were among the distinguished speakers along with Mr. Hibu Tamang, SPUNER’s Joint Commissioner of Police, and Mr. Balaji Srivastav, BPR&D’s Director-General.
Following the plenary session, a panel discussion was held. It was attended by education reformer and engineer Sonam Wangchuk, Indian player Bhaichung Bhutia, and Ajaliu Numai, Head of the University of Hyderabad’s Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy.
