Guest Lecture on “Women in Newsrooms: Icons of Glamour or Voices of the Marginalized”
As part of the guest lecture series, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications on Wednesday invited Ms Shobhna Yadav, a senior anchor with ABP News and filmmaker for a talk on the topic : “Women in Newsrooms: Icons of Glamour or Voices of the Marginalized”.
The event was held at the I-Block auditorium, which was jam-packed with students from the Journalism and Mass Communication & English departments.
During the interactive session, the anchor spoke of her life’s journey, the challenges of working in the field as a reporter and how one handles the pressure of anchoring on Prime Time Television.
She encouraged the students to read and research on varied topics, saying one could not become a good reporter/anchor unless they are well-versed with the economic, political and social issues of the times.
Ms. Yadav enthralled the students with several anecdotes of her meetings with people from various walks of life and enthusiastically responded to queries in the ‘Question and Answer’ session.
Ms. Yadav, also a filmmaker, spoke about her films “Batla House” based on a real-life encounter and “Dasvi” which has recently been released on Netflix and Jio Cinema.
In the end, the vote of thanks was presented by Professor Kumar Raajesh. The event was conducted by Ms. Ankita Bharti, Assistant Professor and organized by Dr Aman Vats, Head of the Department under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Maithili Ganjoo, Dean, FMeH.
