National Media Conclave

With the advancement of communication technology and multiplicity of media, the media outreach has increased tremendously and media has become a powerful tool. With the click of a button messages from the media reach all parts of globe, create perceptions which may or may not be a reality but lead to formation of public opinion. Such strong are the opinions that it can sway intelligentsia, judiciary and legislature.

Media, though responsible and careful, at times in its zest to report first and beat deadlines, reports without proper verification and authentication and even becomes judgmental on issues. Media investigations and subsequent dissemination  though helpful in bringing facts to the fore and exposing many hidden/convoluted facts, has to be responsible and accountable for the information disseminated. There are many checks and balances and nonjusticiable ethics but they are not sufficient to ingrain responsibility and accountability when compared to the extent and reach of media. It is the responsibility of every professional to be responsible for not only the words communicated but for the impact and opinion it creates on issues.

Students are the future of any profession. They need to be inculcated with all aspects of the profession and its repercussions so that they know where to draw the line.

This conclave has been conceived with the idea of providing a platform where the expert media professionals will debate this sensitive issue and interact with budding professionals toprovide them the right direction and thinking.
