One day visit to the CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi
Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering And Technology, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS), Faridabad organized a one day visit to the CSIR-CRRI, Mathura Road, New Delhi on October 30, 2019.
A group of 40 students from Computer Science, B.Tech, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and B. Arch, Faculty of Architecture and Design (First Year) along with faculty members Dr. Anupama Rajput and Dr. Mukta Sharma (Department of Chemistry), proceeded to the pioneer organization.
Central Road Research Institute or CRRI was established in 1950. It is a constituent laboratory of India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. The CRRI is located in New Delhi and conducts research and development in the areas of design, construction, maintenance and management of roads and airport runways.
The students were first taken to the C.V Raman Conference Hall. Dr. Neelam J. Gupta, Head and Principal Scientist, CRRI addressed the students and gave brief description about the organization .First, they showed the documentary film on the insights of CSIR-CRRI, where the students acquired the knowledge about the various departments on which the CRRI works and also came across the system of internship which was practiced there.
Students were then taken to the 5 major divisions of CRRI:
1. Pavement Evaluation Division (Network Survey Vehicle)
2. Flexible Pavement Division (Accelerated Pavement Testing Facility)
3. Car Simulator
4. Geotechnical Engineering Division
5. Bridge Engineering and Structures
The students also got an idea on the ways the CRRI, reuses the waste products in the construction of roads.
Students also got an opportunity to interact with many scientists who are working in CRRI and explored the role of Computer Science Engineering in the fields.
