International Conference on Green Initiatives in Science and Technology
A one day International Conference on Green Initiatives in Science and Technology was organized by the Department of Chemistry, MRCE on 15th January, 2015 in association with GCNC, New Delhi and ISST, Ghaziabad and sponsored by Royal Society of Chemistry, London, North India Section and Indian oil R&D, Faridabad. More than 100 delegates from different Universities, IITs, MNITs of India and abroad attended the conference.
Leading educationists and green chemistry experts gathered to discuss the research in the field of green technology and its role in achieving a sustainable future worldwide. This conference was a small but important example of the fact that MRCE continues with its efforts to strive to achieve research excellence. The conference started with the blessings of Almighty with lamp lighting followed by the welcome address by the organizing secretary of GIST-2015, Dr. AK Gupta. MD, MREI, Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, declared the conference open and delivered his inaugural address. Dr. Naveen Prakash, Director, MRCE delivered opening remarks and shared importance of science and technology for sustainable development. Dr R K Malhotra, Dr. O. P. Bhalla Chair Professor for Research and Innovation, MRIU and Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee, GIST-2015 shared his views about green energy and importance of bio-fuels. Dr. Avtar Matharu, Dy. Director, Green Chemistry Centre of excellence, University of York, U.K. inaugurated the Green Chemistry Network Centre, MR Campus chapter and delivered his Plenary Lecture. He also inaugurated Poster session comprises of 25 posters from various universities, IITs, MNITs, and DU. At the end Dr. Megha Mittal, Convener, GIST-2015 proposed vote of thanks to dignitaries, speakers and delegates. Special thanks was proposed to Dr. Prashant Bhalla, Patron, GIST-2015 President, MREI and to Dr. Amit Bhalla, Chairman, Organizing Committee, GIST-2015, Vice President, MREI for proving constant guidance and support and motivation.
The conference had five technical sessions namely, Green Energy (GE), Green Synthesis (GS), Green Processes (GP), Green Analytical Techniques (GAT) and Green Materials (GM). Dr. Abhiram Prabhu, Member relations India, RSC shared global activities of RSC. The technical sessions started with key note lectures of eminent speakers, Prof. D. K. Sharma from IIT Delhi, Prof. Kishor Arora from Gwalior, Prof. M. A. Quraishi from IIT-BHU, Prof. Ali Mohd. From AMU, and Prof. D. S. Rawat from DU. It was a platform where 40 delegates presented their piece of research work in oral and 25 displayed it in the poster session. The basic purpose of this conference was to cull out the views of the masters of the field of green chemistry and young scholars and get acquainted with the emerging technologies and research emerging to save the environment.
The valedictory function was presided by Dr. Tuli, Executive Director and centre coordinator, DBT-IOC Centre for Advanced Bio-energy Research. Best Oral Presentation Awards were given in each category GAT, GS, GP, GM, GE and Best Poster Presentation Award was also given. All the delegates received certificates for participation in the conference and paper presentation. The conference was concluded by Dr. Tuli with an encouraging note to the audience. He mentioned that young researchers should get such platforms where they can have scientific discussions and exchange their views and ideas for sustainable future. The conference provided a good platform to bring together academia, industry and research organizations for interaction and brought about solutions towards implementing green chemistry and engineering based technologies.
