New Initiatives towards teaching and learning MOOCs
Self-Learning is an important part of student’s overall growth in the institute. It helps to keep them pace with the updated dynamic world outside the campus. It not only helps them acquire knowledge of some advanced topics and courses but improves their overall personality. Students are motivated to attend Webinars, Technical lectures, Symposia, Conferences, Workshops and Training in their related interest areas. Many digital resources in the form of e-books and e-journals are available with the library website that is provided with remote access to better accessibility for the students. SWAYAM MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) are offered by UGC in self learning mode through online portal.
The MOOC courses recommended for all semesters of B.Tech Biotechnology students may be domain related such as Human Molecular Genetics, Soft Nanotechnology; Introduction to Dynamical Models in Biology; Medical Biomaterials; Introduction to Proteomics. The students are also encouraged to take up MOOC courses of generic nature such as Principles of Human Resource Management; Foundation course in Managerial Economics; Project Management; Health Research Fundamentals; Enhancing soft skills and Personality; Speaking Effectively.

Students are also encouraged to pursue technical trainings during summer/ winter vacations so that the period is utilized for learning and enhancing the practical skills. Students pursue such trainings at research organizations of industry where they gain the knowledge about carrying out experimentations using a sophisticated high end equipment/ facility. They are guided by a mentor in the laboratory and are also taught about the interpretation of data and its subsequent analysis. This is one way by which students are able to gain insight into cutting edge research tools and keep themselves abreast with the technological advancements.
