IELTS stands for the International English Language Testing system. It operates on a nine point band, where a nine indicates that the student has a level of English equivalent to a highly educated native speaker, and it tests all four skills ( reading, writing, listening and speaking) in an academic context.

It has been claimed that ‘those who do not speak Chinese are not ready for the 21st century’. A bold statement perhaps, but with many employers and companies across the globe seeking to establish relationships and develop key business links with China, Mandarin (Chinese) has indeed become a very valuable and highly sought after skill in today’s world. At the heart of Chinese civilization is its rich heritage of novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and, more recently, film. Chinese has a relatively uncomplicated grammar. Unlike French, German or English, Chinese has no verb conjugation (no need to memorize verb tenses!) and no noun declension (e.g., gender and number distinctions).
